Oil Sampling & Analysis

Sampling and analysis of engine oil is another valuable tool in assessing and maintaining engine health. Engine oil analysis can detect problems such as bearing wear or wear of exhaust valve guides etc (as indicated by high levels of Nickel for example). Wear can be occurring in locations which  are not accessible for borescope inspection - such as in crankshaft bearings etc and there may not be wear debris which is large enough to be visible when we cut open the oil filter during an oil change.

We can take samples of the engine oil and send it to an appropriate laboratory for analysis. Usually 2 samples are required - the  engine oil in use and a sample of the clean oil.
